Home / About
Fully licensed, fully traceable, and fully committed to the people and land of Tanzania. This is who we are.
Who We Are
Matongo Gold Mines (MGM) operates one of Tanzania's most modern mid-tier gold portfolios. From our open-pit and underground operations in the Geita region to our CIL processing plant, every stage of production is licensed, audited, and traceable.
We were founded on a simple conviction: a mine should leave its community and its landscape in a better position than it found them. That conviction shapes our hiring, our rehabilitation programs, and the way we do business with partners around the world.
What Drives Us
To produce ethically sourced, fully traceable gold that meets international standards while creating lasting economic value for Tanzania and its communities.
To be recognised as East Africa's most trusted gold producer — the benchmark for responsible mining, transparent partnerships, and community prosperity.
We say what we do and do what we say — in assays, in contracts, and in communities.
No ounce of gold is worth an injury. Zero-harm is a condition of employment, not a slogan.
We rehabilitate more land than we disturb and protect every watershed we touch.
Long-term relationships outlast market cycles. We invest in partners, not transactions.
Our Journey
Matongo Gold Mines is incorporated in Geita with a single prospecting licence and a team of 14.
Full mining licence granted. First open-pit ore extracted and toll-processed for the domestic market.
Our 1,200 tpd carbon-in-leach plant comes online, enabling full in-house processing.
Chain-of-custody and assay reconciliation systems deployed — LBMA-aligned documentation on every lot.
A production-linked fund is established, financing schools, clinics, and water infrastructure.
Cumulative production passes 3.2 tonnes of gold with 480 hectares rehabilitated.
Underground development and plant expansion begin, targeting a 40% increase in throughput.
